Understanding Colors in Printing
When you avail of any printing services, you are likely to be deciding between offset and digital printing. The former involves the creation of plates and the stamping of inks on them to achieve the color you want. In the latter on the other hand, the ink is merely sprayed on without going through the lamination. In both cases, the printing company will be using CMYK or cyan, magenta, yellow and black instead of the RGB that your computer and camera are using to display. Thus, if you are using many colors and layers in your design, you can expect a certain variation in the output if you use offset printing due to the color mixing process and the alignment of plates.
For your brochure printing, you can have the option having your cover in full color while the text on the inside pages can be printed in black. When you use tiny fonts, it may be best that you use plain black ink to make them easier on the eyes. As much as possible, request that you use rich black instead of relying on the combination of CMYK that produces the less sharper normal black.
